I am a Leeds based artist interested in painting free form gestures. I've recently began to apply these painterly patterns to homeware pieces. I'm obsessed with plants so it all started when I wanted to design a patterned plant pot for myself. The patterns I create are inspired by my paintings and mimic the flow of paint.

I have always been drawn to expressionism as using feeling as an art form felt freeing to me. From this, pouring paint just naturally happened. I used to fear control and responsibility of paint, leaving its fate in the hands of gravity. Gradually with confidence I noticed a shift in the way I moved material and my work became more about my action and consent of control.

Painting is a continual personal journey of confidence for me. I am an over-thinker with a shaky hand and this is sometimes apparent in my patterns but that's what makes each one special. The end result of a painting changes depending on how confident I feel and any angst encumbers the wave of paint. When painting I move with haste putting myself under pressure to try and avoid thinking consciously, to unveil my 'true self'. Andre Breton described these movements as "Pure psychic automatism ... the dictation of thought in absence of all control". This battle with control and acceptance is always very prevalent in my work especially when dealing with anxieties. Sometimes painting can be overwhelming and sometimes I completely crumble and sometimes those pieces turn out to be my favourite ones. It's just a documentation of a feeling at that point in time, captured and expressed through movement.
